Field Trip Reports 2022

Nov Sat 12th
MALLTRAETH AND CORS DDYGA

An excellent day eight members out, our first bird of prey was a peregrine sat on the marsh. On the inlet rafts of shelduck, pintail and wigeon, in the shallow water black tailed godwits. Moving on to Cors Ddyga a flock of snipe, I mentioned the peregrine our first bird of prey, this was followed by kestrel, sparrowhawk mobbed by a crow, four marsh harriers, a red kite and a buzzard.

Thanks to those that turned out.

Aug 22 Field Trip to
Frodsham/Weaver Bend

Osprey Delight

Not only was it delightful to see an osprey as we headed towards Marsh Farm but double delight watching it on the Weaver Bend, as we had our lunch. After circling over the river twice, and one failed attempt, we saw the osprey swoop down to the river and exit with a fish in it's talons, right in front of us. Double delight.

Other sightings include 2,500 black tail godwits, barnacle geese, yellow wagtail and hundreds of goldfinches.

Many thanks to the members who joined me for an unforgettable experience.

May 22 Field Trip to
Whixall Moss

What a tremendous day, the weather was just right for the early hobbies, circa at least ten, peregrine, curlew, dark bellied Brent, wheatear, mandarin duck, warblers; blackcap, garden, sedge, willow, chiffchaffs, whitethroats and butterflies, yellow brimstone, speckled wood, green hairstreak plus numerous unidentified dragonflies.
Tremendous.

It is disappointing that only five members enjoyed such a tremendous day.

February 22 Field Trip to
River Clwyd

We enjoyed a good days birding on 4th of Feb, scoters and wigeon on the sea, goosanders and red breasted mergansers on the lakes. We found our two target birds scaup and white fronted geese, the latter being the fiftieth and the last of the day.
My thanks to all those members who turned out.
